Ok, I was pushed to the brink of sanity this past week and had to share it with you!
This patient we will call Pat for privacy purposes..Pat is unable to speak due to being ventilated, Pat is a quadrapalegic. There is some movement of the arms but not much. I have to say Pat drove me insane. Every five minutes Pat calls on the call bell, fix my head band, fix my pads , bring my pain med, bring my antianxiety med, make sure you bring both again in 4 hours even if I am asleep. I know that this sounds really harsh and insensitive but, If I ask you before I leave the room " Is there anything else I can get for you before I leave?" and you say no and then the second I walk out of the room you call again and this happens EVERYTIME! I go into your room you are being an ASSWHOLE!! I am a patient person, I can usually deal with difficult patients, but he really got my goat. I still went in EVERYTIME he called , even when one of my other patients had to be transfered to the ICU..I still managed to go in and say I will be off the floor for a few minutes are you ok is there anything you need before I go...Pats answer...no I dont need anything...The call light went on the minute I hit the nurses station to get the other patients chart...and of course my coworkers being the way they are ... no one else would enter this room because they also would be sucked in to being in there for 20 min. UGHH!! Thankfully they rotated him to a different nurse after two days. I was glad but still ended up going into Pats room a few times because of course the nurse that had him was very good at ignoring the call bell. I just cant ignore it, maybe thats why I was so stressed...

Oh, I know this too well! Some patients just don't have any ability to feel how much they can bother a professional, without having their conscience effected att all! And ofcourse, there is no chance they ever say "I'm sprry for taking so much of your time" or anything! This is just too annoying! I know ecsactly how you feel! I hope you will not have to treat that patient for too long...
